Bemis Packaging Machinery Company
Thiele Technologies traces its history back to 1931 when the first Deltaseal bag sealing machine was completed and sold by a special branch of the Bemis Company that would later become Bemis Packaging Machinery Company (BPMC). In the late 40's that branch was established as a separate business unit of the Bemis Company and was moved into the building at its current location in northeast Minneapolis.
Thiele Engineering Company
Thiele Engineering was
established in 1949 in Hopkins, Minnesota, manufactured its first reciprocating placer for promotional coupons. During the decades that followed, the company grew and flourished. Thiele Engineering eventually moved to Minneapolis and in 1995 was acquired by Barry-Wehmiller Company.
Frontier Equipment
In 1995 Barry-Wehmiller Company and Thiele Engineering acquired Frontier Equipment of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The two companies were combined into a single entity and renamed Thiele Technologies, retaining both locations and manufacturing operations.
Edmeyer
Acquired in July 2005, Edmeyer, Inc., a well known manufacturer of automatic equipment and conveyors for the dairy industry since 1959, joined Thiele Technologies to offer a wider array of expertise and packaging machinery solutions. Edmeyer provided dairy packaging equipment to almost every dairy plant in America.
Streamfeeder
Streamfeeder was formed in 1990 and acquired by Thiele in October 2006. The Streamfeeder product line provides automation solutions to the commercial printing, contract packaging, and mailing & fulfillment industries. Applications include Mailing (inserting, inkjetting, labeling, tabbing, folding, reinforcing), Batch Counting (greeting cards, trading cards, envelopes),Print Packaging (retail packaging, stationery, scrapbooking), Fulfillment (kits, product manuals, presentation folders, catalogs), Polybag Wrapping (mailing publications, magazines, catalogs), Complete Systems (collating, tip-on/affixing, package inserting, bar code reading, and much more). Thiele’s line of reciprocating, rotary and denesting placer equipment was integrated into the Streamfeeder product line.
Slidell
Acquired in April 2006, the Slidell product line of scales, bagging and palletizing machinery since the mid 1970s in Owatonna, Minnesota, has produced open mouth bagging equipment and palletizing systems that handle free flowing granular products and powder.
SWF Companies
Acquired in January 2007, SWF has been a dominant manufacturer of precision packaging machinery for more than fifty years. Throughout its history, SWF was a pioneer in the development of packaging designs and machinery and a driving force during a period of rapidly changing packaging applications, materials, and requirements. In the mid-1960s General Nailing Machine Corp. developed hot-melt adhesives, spawning the rapid conversion from wood to corrugated shipping containers. In 1971, the company was acquired by Southwest Forest Industries and its name was subsequently changed to SWF Machinery in 1974. Thiele’s purchase included SWF’s acquisitions of McDowell International, Padlocker, Tri-Sterling, Salwasser, Tisma, and GSMA.
McDowell International
In 1996, SWF acquired McDowell International Packaging Systems, thereby adding a complete line of RSC machines to its product offering. McDowell was established in 1977 to service the RSC case erector/bottom sealer needs of the Florida fresh fruit market. In 1980, McDowell expanded its market focus to include the blow-molded plastics industry with a line of bottle packers, unpackers, and sealers. Over the years, customer demand led McDowell into the development of top sealers, drop case packers, place case packers, inverted case packers and five gallon, filled bottle rack loaders. Development continued to include a wide array of markets and customers, including producers of food, beverage, chemical, meat, dairy, bakery, petroleum, and personal care products.
Padlocker
In 1998, SWF acquired Padlocker (an ITW Company), adding Padlocker’s well-respected, high-speed case erectors and random sealers to its product offering. The Padlocker line, with a history dating back to 1953, allowed SWF to expand its RSC corrugated product offerings.
Tri-Sterling
In 1998, SWF acquired Tri-Sterling, Inc., thereby adding a very successful line of wraparound case packers, casing systems and tray/shrink wrap systems to its offerings. McDowell, Padlocker and Tri-Sterling operations were then consolidated in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Salwasser
In June 2000, SWF acquired Salwasser Manufacturing Co., Inc., a leading manufacturer of integrated case packaging equipment for more than fifty years. Salwasser also manufactured packaging machinery specializing in automation of case packing operations in the paper, dry goods and toiletries markets.
Tisma
In April 2001, SWF acquired Tisma Machinery Corporation of Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Tisma was a leading provider of cartoning machinery, with special emphasis on high speed, complex applications for the food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals markets. These highly engineered cartoning solutions allowed SWF to expand its capability to provide customers with a single source for full integrated packaging solutions.
GSMA
In March 2004, SWF acquired GSMA Systems of Palm Bay, Florida. For over 15 years, GSMA had been a prominent designer and integrator of robotic automation solutions for a broad range of assembly, mixing, palletizing and packaging applications with primary focus on food, automotive, medical devices and pharmaceutical markets.
Nigrelli Systems
Nigrelli of Kiel, Wisconsin, was acquired by Thiele in March 2008. For more than 50 years, Nigrelli Systems had been a leading supplier of high-speed continuous motion packaging and tray handling systems for a diverse array of industries, including brewing, soft drinks, foods, bottled water, dairy, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and pet care. Systems include high speed case and tray loading systems, Pet bottle packers, bottled water packers, film wrappers, DeNest systems, and cartoning equipment.
Hudson-Sharp Machinery Company
In August 2009, Thiele expanded its product offerings to include Bag Converting. With locations in Green Bay, Wisconsin and Brussels, Belgium, the Hudson-Sharp product line is a world leader in the design and manufacture of plastic bag machinery, pouch making equipment and reclosable packaging solutions.
Ro-An Industries
In October 2009, we added to our new Bag Converting business New York based Ro-An Industries. With this new line of products, we are excited to be able to present our bagging customers with an even broader range of products. |
